Welcome to the Upper Valley Life Web site! The UVLife team — Laura Osborn, Mark Cookson and Laura Jean Whitcomb — is glad that you are here. We’ve watched the Upper Valley change and grow, and knew it was time to start a new publication (or two).
Laura Jean took a leap last summer with Kearsarge Magazine, a quarterly magazine that covers the Kearsarge/Lake Sunapee region. The three of us put together a stellar publication that is doing well and, crazy as it sounds, making people happy.
So, it made sense that our New Year’s resolution was to make ourselves happy. It wasn’t that we were unhappy, per se, it was that we wanted more. We wanted more for our writers, who get paid small amounts for some truly hard work. We wanted more for our photographers — did you know that one of our photographers started photographing a house at dawn and kept coming back until sunset, looking for that perfect shot? And our illustrators and artists and advertisers...everyone needs to feel part of something good, something that benefits everyone and something that gives back to the community. We started Upper Valley Life to do just that. It really makes a difference when you can go home at night and look in the mirror and say, “I did a good job today.”
We hope to do a good job every two months with our new bi-monthly publication. It is available at 30 different retail outlets across the Upper Valley, and you can sign up for a six-issue subscription by printing out the subscription form on our Web site.
